Robert C Hitchcock toured with Rudolf Nureyeev, in the mid 1970s, studying him and creating wax sketches of the dancer during the dancer's lengthy rehearsals. He is one of only two sculptors to have worked live from Nureyeev. Five sets consisting of seven bronzes were commissioned by London ballet critic Richard Buckle. They were originally bought to be housed in America, France & Australia with the remaining two sets in private collections, Robert has also worked live from Mikhail Baryshnikovin America and Maya Plisetskaya in Australia.
